Vision and objectives for the Kanta Services

The Kanta Services form a national entity of digital services for social welfare and healthcare, and they are also linked to international information systems. The Kanta Services will expand and become more versatile as citizens’ needs change and new laws enter into force.

The Kanta Services is a constantly evolving set of digital services designed to

  • support people’s wellbeing and be part of smooth everyday life for citizens
  • improve social welfare and healthcare
  • ensure that information moves with people
  • serve society through knowledge.

Vision for the Kanta Services to 2030: Kanta is a reliable and evolving pillar of wellbeing across Finland

The development of the Kanta Services is guided by a vision created in collaboration between Kela, the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. The starting point for the vision is the growing need to utilise social welfare and healthcare data, and technological advancements are creating new solutions to meet this need. The Kanta Services provide comprehensive access to data for service provision, knowledge-based management, and innovation.

MyKanta supports wellbeing and makes life easier

Digital services are an integral part of effective social welfare and healthcare services, which make extensive use of the data in Kanta. MyKanta is familiar, safe, and client-oriented, and helps people keep track of their wellbeing and prevent disease. Digital services for citizens comprise an understandable and clear system in which the national MyKanta service is part of a smooth and interactive service path.

Kanta improves social welfare and healthcare

The smooth use of Kanta data has become an established part of social welfare and healthcare professionals’ work, saving resources for meeting clients and eliminating the need to transfer data on paper between organisations. Information systems have a user-friendly view of Kanta data. AI and automation are utilised. Kanta promotes social welfare and healthcare integration by transferring data between social welfare and healthcare services.

Kanta data serves all of society

Kanta refines consistent and comparable social welfare and healthcare data, which is used in decision-making, research, innovation, and official duties. Data saved in the system is used further in a variety of ways. The national Kanta system reduces overlapping work and improves cost-effectiveness.

Kanta enables people to take their data with them

Data stored in Kanta follows clients even when they move home or use multiple social welfare and healthcare services, whether public or private. Kanta data is also available elsewhere in Europe to support care. Technological development and interoperability are based on open APIs and international standards. This allows national, regional and private digital services to work together and supplement each other.
