Notice - Professionals Written on 7.10.2024 All notices

You can now buy medicines from Finnish pharmacies using a Czech ePrescription. Similarly, Finnish prescriptions are valid in Czechia.

The European ePrescription has been expanded to Czechia as of 7 October. It is now possible to buy medicines in Finland using a Czech ePrescription. In addition to Czechia, five other countries are currently participating in the service.

Foreign customers are identified at the pharmacy with photo ID before their medicine is dispensed. You can find photo ID templates on the European Council website (consilium.europa.eu)).

There are country and region-specific differences in how ePrescriptions are dispensed. You can check these on kanta.fi. Take a look at the differences to ensure that your prescription can be dispensed successfully.

Medicines dispensed will be shown in the Prescription Centre under Prescription dispensing information.

Benefits of the European ePrescription service

The Kanta Services are developing the European ePrescription in cooperation with EU and EEA countries. The aim is to ensure the continuity of care and safe medication for EU and EEA nationals moving within the region. If a person needs medicine while in another EU country, they can buy it from a pharmacy in that country.

Shared electronic services will allow countries to exchange prescription information reliably and efficiently. The European ePrescription will also support the future development of the Kanta medication list and the overall management of the patient's medication.

The countries currently participating in the service in Finland are Estonia, Croatia, Czechia, Poland, Portugal and Spain. The introduction of the European ePrescription is progressing in stages, and other countries are also due to join soon.
