How to request a prescription renewal in the new MyKanta online service
The new version of MyKanta will be launched in stages from autumn 2023. The first functionality that you will be able to try out in the new version of MyKanta is the Prescriptions section.
How to renew a prescription in the new MyKanta:
- Log in to MyKanta at kanta.fi. You can identify yourself using your online banking credentials or similar.
- On the front page of MyKanta, select the box that contains information about the updated Prescriptions section. Click the link to go to the new version of MyKanta.
- In the new MyKanta, select ‘Reseptit’ (Prescriptions) in the menu and then ‘Reseptien uusiminen’ (Prescription renewal).
- You can then search for the prescriptions you want to renew. To restrict your search, select one of these buttons: ‘Kaikki reseptit’, ‘Lääkettä jäljellä’, ‘Lääkettä ei jäljellä’, ‘Uusittavana’ or ‘Vanhenemassa’ (All prescriptions, Remaining medicine, No remaining medicine, Being renewed or Expiring).
- Select the prescriptions that you would like to renew.
- Select a recipient for the requested renewal. Renewal requests are processed at your regular health care services, such as a health centre or private clinic.
- You can provide your phone number so that you receive a text message once your prescription renewal request has been processed by your health care provider.
- Check that your information and phone number are correct. Finally, submit the renewal request.
- MyKanta will display a confirmation message when you have submitted a request to renew a prescription.
When is it not possible to renew a prescription?
You cannot renew a prescription through MyKanta, if
- the doctor has prohibited renewal of the prescription
- the prescription has been cancelled
- the prescription is for a unit-dose dispensed medicine
- an earlier renewal request for the prescription was rejected
- the prescription was issued for purchase abroad
- the prescription is for a special permit product
- no medicine has yet been purchased with the prescription
- the prescription is a hospital pharmacy prescription.
Note that not all units receive renewal requests via MyKanta. In such situations, it will not be possible to select the unit in the MyKanta menu. In this case, please directly contact the health care unit responsible for your treatment, such as a health centre or private clinic.
