The smart cards and certificates required in social and health care are produced and issued by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV). These are also required for the use of the Kanta services.
Smart cards for social welfare and health care service providers
The use of the Kanta services requires strong electronic authentication or the use of a smart card by professionals.
A social welfare or health care service provider or pharmacy preparing to join the Kanta Services must ensure that its personnel use the required smart carts to identify themselves in the system and to sign documents.
The professional ID card is intended for regulated social welfare and health care professionals or pharmacies who have a valid right to practice.
The personnel card is intended for workers in social welfare and health care organisations who have not been granted any professional practice rights. These include office workers or information service personnel, for example.
The operator card is intended for personnel other than the organisation's own personnel, such as consultants or representatives of an information system provider.
Replacement cards are used to log in to information systems if a smart card has been lost, broken, or left at home. The replacement card cannot be used to log in to the Archivist’s User Interface or Kanta Extranet.
Service certificates
Service certificates are software certificates produced by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency for social welfare and health care service providers and pharmacies using the Kanta Services.
Server certificates are used to identify technical access points used by service providers or pharmacies and to establish a secure connection between the access point and the Kanta Services. The operator managing the access point is responsible for obtaining the server certificate and for keeping it up to date.
System signature certificates are used to electronically sign documents in the Patient Data Repository or Client Data Repository for Social Welfare Services that are not signed using personal smart cards.
System signature certificates are specific to each joining party.
If service provider that is joining Kanta obtains a patient information or client information system as a comprehensive service, the joining party can also use the service provider’s system certificate. In this case, the certificate is system specific. The responsibilities and obligations must then be described in a mutual agreement between the service provider joining Kanta and the information system service provider.
