The ‘Care needs assessment entry’ document is used to record information in Kanta in a consistent format, making it easier to utilise. The information in the care needs assessment can be transferred between public and private healthcare service providers, for example. This makes the information available to professionals at the unit where the patient is being treated.
A consistent operating model means that the client’s assessment experience is the same wherever they receive treatment. Consistently assessing the need for care also provides clarity for the client’s follow-up treatment.
Where can the new document be used?
The structured ‘Care needs assessment entry’ document can be utilised in primary healthcare, oral healthcare, and the Medical Helpline 116117. It is part of a solution being developed for the Kanta Services to monitor access to treatment.
The goal is for the information collected in the Care Register for Health Care to be obtained directly from the Kanta Services in the future. This will mean that healthcare service providers no longer need to provide the information separately.
Wellbeing services counties are involved in development
The monitoring of information related to access to primary healthcare treatment will be piloted in 2025. The pilot will involve two wellbeing services counties and their system providers, the Kanta Services, the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.
During the pilot, two wellbeing services counties will enable the ‘Care needs assessment entry’ document. Kela and THL will collect notes on how the document is used and, if necessary, modify the implementation of the document. The operating model and the instructions for recording data can also be specified.
How to start using the Care needs assessment entry document
The document may be further specified during the pilot. If you would like to already deploy the functionality in 2025, please contact kanta@kanta.fi.
You can deploy this functionality once your organisation has joined as a user of the Patient Data Repository.
After this, please contact your information system provider to ensure that the ‘Care needs assessment entry’ functionality can be deployed in your patient information system.
Systems in which the ‘Care needs assessment entry’ functionality has been joint tested can also be found on the Situation of the Patient Data Repository page.
