Medical certificates for Kela

Medical certificates for Kela

You can ask that the health care professional treating you forward a medical certificate stored in Kanta to Kela’s benefit processing.

Medical certificates and statements can be forwarded directly from Kanta to Kela for benefit processing. In this case, you do not need to send the certificate to Kela by mail or in the OmaKela e-service.

What certificates can be forwarded to Kela?

It is possible to forward the following certificates to Kela:

  • Medical certificate A for sickness allowance (SV 6)
  • Medical statement B (SV 7)
  • Medical certificate D for a child’s special care allowance (SV 10)
  • Certificate for reimbursement of travel expenses (SV 67)
  • Medical statement on the need for special maternity leave (SV 97)
  • Certificate of pregnancy (SV 75)

Please note that not all health care units are yet able to forward certificates to Kela. Please confirm with the doctor who issued the certificate that it is possible to forward it.

If you would like a certificate to be forwarded to Kela, please follow the steps below

Ask your doctor if the health care unit can forward the certificate to Kela via Kanta.

Arrange with your doctor for your certificate to be forwarded directly to Kela’s benefit processing.

You can ask your doctor for a printout of the certificate forwarded to Kela. The printout will mention that the certificate has been forwarded to Kela.

Once the certificate has been forwarded to Kela, you will also be able to see the certificate in the OmaKela e-service (kela.fi). If you are applying for a benefit or reimbursement from Kela, always complete a separate application to Kela. Simply forwarding the certificate to Kela is not enough to apply for the benefit.

The certificate in MyKanta will also indicate that the certificate has been forwarded electronically. Read more about certificates and statements in MyKanta.
