Sending a medical statement on fitness to drive to Traficom for a driving licence

Sending a medical statement on fitness to drive to Traficom for a driving licence

Information about your fitness to drive can be transmitted electronically to Traficom if the doctor has saved the medical statement on fitness to drive in Kanta.

When your doctor assesses your fitness to drive, they will write a medical statement on your fitness to drive (F122). In some health care units, the certificate may be saved in Kanta, from where the information can be forwarded to the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom) for the purpose of applying for a driver’s licence.

When you apply for a driver’s licence using Traficom’s e-services or at an Ajovarma service point, you can give consent to the retrieval of your medical statement information directly from Kanta, so that you do not need to submit a medical statement to Traficom on paper.

Only the information needed for the driver’s licence application, not the full statement on your fitness to drive, will be forwarded to Traficom. You will see in MyKanta that the information in the report has been forwarded to Traficom. Read more about statements in MyKanta.

If you wish information about your fitness to drive to be forwarded to Traficom, please take the following steps:

Ask your doctor if the health care unit can save the medical statement on your fitness to drive in Kanta.

Ask the doctor to save the statement in Kanta.

You can ask your doctor for a paper printout of the statement if you wish.

Please give your consent for the retrieval of the information on the medical statement on your fitness to drive from Kanta when you apply for a driver’s licence using Traficom’s e-services or at an Ajovarma service point.

Why can’t Traficom retrieve the data from my medical statement?

It may be that the health care unit you are using does not yet save medical statements on fitness to drive in Kanta. In this case, the information in the statement cannot be forwarded to Traficom electronically, so please request a paper copy of the statement and take it to an Ajovarma service point.

If the medical statement on your fitness to drive is visible in MyKanta, but Traficom is not able to retrieve the information, the statement may have been completed incorrectly. If this happens, please contact your health care unit. The doctor who issued the statement will correct the information in the statement.

Also check that the statement is not too old. If the statement was issued more than six months ago, it will no longer be valid for a driver’s licence application.
